From 1 January 2027, every business in Slovakia must be able to receive an e-invoice from a supplier who is a VAT payer. This includes sole traders who are not VAT payers themselves.[1][2] E-invoices will mostly travel through certified delivery service providers, which the Financial Administration calls 'digital postmen'.[2]

Choosing one takes a few minutes on the Financial Administration portal. It is worth doing with some thought, though, because you can only have one registered for receiving at a time.[4] This guide follows the Financial Administration's official user guide, step by step.[3]

Who needs a digital postman

  • A VAT payer will issue and send e-invoices for the domestic supplies to businesses and legal entities that the law covers, and receive them too.[2]
  • A non-VAT payer does not have to issue e-invoices but must be able to receive one from a supplier who is a VAT payer. They can keep sending their own invoices as before, for example as a PDF.[2]
  • Consumers are not affected: they will keep receiving invoices as they do today.[2]
  • A foreign person registered for VAT in Slovakia does not, merely because of that registration, have to issue or receive e-invoices through a postman between 1 January 2027 and 30 June 2030.[2]

Being ready to receive is the recipient’s responsibility. A supplier who issues the e-invoice correctly and sends it through the delivery service has met its obligation, even if the recipient never picks it up.[2]

What to prepare first

  • A tax ID (DIČ) that has been assigned and notified. Without one the application will not let you choose. If you have no DIČ, the Financial Administration advises contacting its call centre.[3][2]
  • Access to the Financial Administration portal. You log in through slovensko.sk (with a chip ID card, a residence card with a chip, the Slovensko v mobile app or a login method issued in another EU country) or with the user ID and password of your personal internet zone. You cannot log in without an account on the portal.[3]
  • A contact e-mail and phone number in international format, such as +421 9xx xxx xxx. The provider uses them to contact you about a contract.[3][4]
  • An answer from the vendor of your software on whether and from when it will support e-invoices and which postman it will connect to.[2]

How to choose the right provider

The Financial Administration describes three common routes:[2]

  • The invoicing or accounting software you already use, if it supports e-invoices and is connected to a digital postman.
  • A digital postman's standalone app: a web or mobile inbox, suited above all to those who mainly receive e-invoices. For businesses with few invoices, the Financial Administration expects free options as well.
  • An all-in-one solution: invoicing or accounting software whose vendor is also a postman, or a postman that also offers tools for issuing and managing invoices.[2]

When comparing offers, find out in particular:[2]

  • whether the service covers receiving and sending, or only one of them,
  • what receiving and sending cost and whether a monthly number of documents is included,
  • whether received e-invoices can be imported into your software without retyping,
  • how you are notified of a new invoice (by e-mail, in an app or directly in your software),
  • how archiving, search and export of e-invoices are handled,
  • whether your accountant can access the documents too.[2]

Each row of the Financial Administration's list names an intermediary and a certified provider. An intermediary resells the provider's service. It does not have to be accredited on the Peppol network itself, but it looks after the customers. A company that is both appears in both columns.[3]

Choosing on the Financial Administration portal, step by step

  1. Open the provider selection application at vpds.financnasprava.sk. You can see the list of providers and intermediaries without logging in.[5]
  2. Find your intermediary and provider with the help of the 'Vyhľadávanie v zozname' (search the list) field and click 'Výber' (select) on that row. Both contacts are shown; continue with 'Pokračovať' (continue).
  3. Log in through slovensko.sk or with your user ID and password. The first time, you confirm that the application may work with your identity and the list of entities you act for.
  4. Choose the taxpayer: yourself as a sole trader, or the company you act for. The application fills in the company ID (IČO), tax ID (DIČ) and address.
  5. Fill in the mandatory contact e-mail and phone number.
  6. Grant permission for the application to pass the entity’s details to the chosen intermediary. Without it you cannot finish.
  7. Check the summary and confirm sending. If you have already chosen the same intermediary for the same entity, the application warns you.
  8. A message about the request arrives in your message box on the Financial Administration portal. It contains a verification code (verifikačný údaj), which the provider may ask you for when registering you.[3][4]

According to the Financial Administration, the whole selection takes about two to three minutes.[6]

What happens after you choose

Choosing on the portal is not a contract yet. It is an expression of interest that sends your verified identification details to the chosen intermediary so that it can contact you. You sign the contract with it, and only then does the provider register you. If no contract is signed, you can repeat the selection with another provider at any time.[4]

The network finds you by your tax ID: Slovak entities are identified as 0245:DIČ, so you do not need any new identification number.[4][2]

If the provider does not contact you within a few days (for instance because its electronic notification failed), contact it directly or repeat the selection. If you want one provider for sending and another for receiving, make a selection for each and tell them what you want to use them for once they get in touch.[3][4]

How to switch your digital postman

The state does not take part in a switch: it happens through your contracts with the providers. The standard procedure according to the Financial Administration:[4]

  1. You end the contract with the old provider under its terms.
  2. Within three working days of the contract ending, the old provider deregisters you from the central register of network participants (SMP).
  3. The provider confirms that you are free to register elsewhere.
  4. You sign a contract with the new provider, which registers you.[4]

When to do it

The obligation to receive e-invoices applies from 1 January 2027. 2026 is voluntary, and the Financial Administration recommends using it to prepare: check your VAT status, choose a solution, agree on the process with your accountant and try receiving in practice.[2]

The government's amendment to the VAT Act (parliamentary print 1454), which further adjusts the e-invoicing rules, has not been passed as of 15 October 2026; the committees are due to discuss it by 16 November 2026.[7] What it proposes is summed up in E-invoicing in Slovakia from 1 January 2027.

  • Check that you have a tax ID (DIČ).
  • Check your access to the Financial Administration portal (eID, residence card with a chip, or user ID and password).
  • Find out which postman your invoicing or accounting software will connect to.
  • Compare the prices of receiving and sending and the number of documents included.
  • Choose a postman at vpds.financnasprava.sk and sign a contract with it.
  • Keep the verification code from your message box.
  • Agree with your accountant who will check and book received e-invoices.

vporiadku and the digital postman

vporiadku is neither a certified delivery service provider nor a registered intermediary, so you cannot choose it on the Financial Administration portal yet. Sending and automatic receiving of e-invoices through a certified partner are being prepared; they are not running yet, and general availability is planned for Q4 2026. Once they launch, you will choose the postman exactly as described above. Nobody can take that step for you.

You can upload a received UBL e-invoice to vporiadku manually right now and read it in a human-friendly view on every plan, including the free Start plan; on the Profi plan you turn it into an expense in one click. The current state of each part is on our e-invoicing 2027 page. In the meantime you can try vporiadku for free.
